Sevyn Streeter Is Taking Her First Trip On The Ride 5

No one's coming off the mountain when they say that hip hop and R&B nowadays can be just a little bit generic. Still, there are more than a few tracks that stand out and we'd like to give shine to those that set themselves apart from the rest. The songs that bump in your car as you drive through the streets of South Florida.

We call it The Ride 5. Five songs that stand out on the The Beat Playlist.

#1. Silk Sonic - Leave The Door Open brings back smooth soul in a BIG way. Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak play their way through 70's R&B stylings with the adoration of musical minds that were raised on the classic sound of soul. Hopefully it marks more of a turn towards harmonies which has been lacking in today's sound, regardless it is a sweet debut from a pair of masters.

#2. Nipsey Hussle ft. Jay-Z - What It Feels Like. Taking its pulse from the legendary sound of 70's soul the Hov and Nipsey collab doesn't let go of its roots and the song's honorable dedication to that sound is what makes it timeless as Nipsey's legacy.

#3. Sevyn Streeter - Guilty ft. Chris Brown, A$AP Ferg - Sevyn Streeter is back in a big way with a hip-hop/soul feel worthy of the Bad Boy legacy it draws from. Using the iconic James Brown "The Big Payback" lick to pulsate and move, this heartfelt duet with Chris Brown keeps the track on steady ground for A$AP Ferg to fully express his NY State Of Mind on his verse. In a world where it seems that soul music is finding new footing in the modern south saturated world that hip-hop has become, this nostalgic serenade feels as fresh and new as the 70's inspiration it draws from.

#4. Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, Amorphous - Sunshine (The Light) is a call back to that 2000;s sound that both Diddy and Joe personified back in the day. In the Miami shot video the two enjoy the fruits of the bling generation's labor and the swag of the Luthor Vandross track it samples.

#5. 50 Cent feat. NLE Choppa & Rileyy Lanez - "Part of the Game" keeps its game as smooth as the operator that first sampled the Mary Jane Girls track. Big Daddy Kane would tip his hat to 50's silky bars gliding over that nice baseline with a soulful Rileyy Lanez coloring the harmony.
