Chingy is still scheduled to perform at a Republican LGBT event despite intense backlash from fans.
The St. Louis rapper caught a lot of heat over the weekend after the Log Cabin Republicans announced that he was one of several special guests who would appear at their upcoming event "Red, White & Rock" in Nashville, Tenn. Following the announcement on Friday, September 19, fans piled on Chingy for accepting an invite from the GOP-back group to perform at the event. At first, the "Holidae In" artist defended his decision to perform and emphasized that he didn't "caurr" about politics.
“I’m a say this one time,” he wrote in an Instagram comment. “My job is to perform and get paid to perform, not caurr [sic] about politics. Now y’all find [something] else to do with yurr [sic] time.”
"Red, White & Rock" is being held at Kid Rock's Big Honky Tonk & Steakhouse next weekend. It will feature speeches from Donald Trump, Jr., his fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle and other Trump supporters. Chingy continued to go in on fans who accused him of being "down bad" for performing at the event.
“You can’t be down bad when you just bought a 500k house,” he said. “Those people don’t hate me because they love my music. Music isn’t racist and that’s how I play it… I’m a performers w[h]ether theses [sic] people political homosexual or whatever they all love music… [M]y job as an artist is to perform and make timeless music.”
Following all the backlash, Chingy reportedly attempted to back out of the event to avoid other misconceptions. He underscored that he is not a Trump supporter and will not endorse a political candidate.
“YOU KNO WHAT JUS CAUSE I DONT WANT TO BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS MESS," Chingy wrote in a social post. "I HAVE DECLINED PERFORMING AND NO IM NOT A TRUMP SUPPORTER NOR SUPPORTER OF ANYONE ELSE BUT CHINGY. THURR YOU HAVE IT.”
Despite all the confusion about the event, Chingy's rep confirmed to TMZ that his client is still booked to perform.
