Large Sink Hole Opens Up At N. Detroit and Fernwood

TOLEDO, Ohio - A large sinkhole has opened up at the intersection of N. Detroit and Fernwood, closing the area to traffic.

WTOL 11 reports the hole formed Monday night when two cars went through it. Both cars were damaged but no one was injured.

The hole is about 30 feet deep, but the city worries it could still grow larger. City crews say it they don't yet know the cause of the sinkhole yet and they are waiting until a contractor can assess the damage.

The area is expected to remain closed for at least a week. Police say drivers should avoid N. Detroit Avenue south of Bancroft or north of Dorr St.
