Land Bank Asks For Help With Church Property

(Toledo, OH) There appears to be a tentative deal to save the historic St. Anthony Catholic Church.

The Lucas County Land Bank board is authorizing negotiations with the Toledo Catholic Diocese to take over the historic church on Nebraska Avenue and save it from demolition. But there are some conditions involved, most notably, a pledge from people who wanted to save the former St. Anthony Church to play a role in its preservation.

Land bank officials say an engineer's report indicates the building is in good condition, despite being vacant since 2005.

Now the land bank is asking the public to donate their time and creativity to redevelop the building. There is still a "stop work order" in place  from city inspectors to keep demolition from happening.

Bishop Daniel Thomas has given the land bank a deadline of one week from today to accept the church and property as a donation.
